  1. Make sure that you know what your customer is really searching for in Google. It's great if we at Lampshade Marketing can get you to the top of Google for the term 'Hairdressers in Cheltenham', but if you make cakes, it's probably not going to drive too may visitors. Look for patterns of what they are searching for in your analytics package and then look for trends. Use this data in Googles Keyword tool to help you find alternatives.
  2. Use Social Media. It's massive now. Some would say the future. Or today. Use Facebook and Twitter, plus LinkedIn and YouTube to promote your business. Link to your website. Whilst Google now pays less attention to this, the links that may come in as a result of your promotion on these sites will help. Big thing here is DON'T sell to your followers. Just be yourself, talking about what you are an expert in, and the links, and sales, will take care of themselves.
  3. Build a website that other websites want to link to. Links are the best. Links to your website are even better! Add things to your website that people want to link to. Tools, calculators and research. White papers and the like. People love those kind of things and will link to them. Build yourself an online reputation. Then you don't have to go chasing links, they will come to you.
  4. Produce awesome content. Simples. Website content is the best thing for attracting Google. Google loves content. And never forget that everyone is different. People search differently. Basically 20% of everything that is typed into Google today has NEVER been searched for before. 20%! Would you like that website traffic? Your niche could be out there writing to be found. Find it.
